Are Australian Cricketers Chokers?
Posted by Triple M Wednesday 5 March, 2008 08:43 AM
For all their carry-on this summer, Australia lost the tri-nation final.
Australia also lost the tri-series finals last year - to England!
With Ricky Ponting in disastrous form, a whole heap of players announcing their retirement (Adam Gilchrist, Brad Hogg) or withdrawal from cricket for a while (Shaun Tait), and the impending Indian Premier League getting as many headlines as the racial tension between the Australian and Indian sides, were the Australians distracted?
Or are the Australians chokers?
Or should we get off their backs?
Comments
i'd say the aussies looked distracted
but, as witnessed by how close both the test series and the one-day series were, it's clear that these sides are very, very evenly matched.
it's going to be interesting to see how the ipl effects the sides - is it going to ruin proper (international test) cricket?
obviously australia is also entering a period of relative rebuilding - we need a new keeper, a decent spinner, and soon a new opener cos hayden won't be around forever (particularly if he keeps running his mouth off) - whereas india seem to have a side chock-full of really classy young talent.
that willowy seamer ishant sharma looks like he could be the next glenn mcgrath - he doesn't go for many runs and he takes a heap of wickets cos he just keeps putting the ball in the right spot. plus they've got that leggie who debuted in the finals series who looks to be a good bowler too. and a host of impressive young batsman, while sachin looks like he could easily dominate for another decade.
apart from all the racial tension, it's been a classic summer of tight, hard-fought cricket.
bring on the october tour to india!

Australia were beaten by the better team on the day.
Australia are not chokers - they've easliy been the best team for the past five years (or something, it's been that long...) and they've been the best by consistently winning the big games.
Give credit to India for playing well... and dare i say it, playing like Australia with their 'no more mr. nice guy, win at all costs' attitude.

definitely true dave - india played lilke australia with a determination that's always seemed to elude them.
5 years? try about 10-15! australia's been the dominant side in world cricket for a long, long time, thanks to players like warne, mcgrath, waugh, and ponting. looks like the tide is turning tho...

Whats happened to the game Cricket? I am disappointed on how everything has gone on in the last 3 months with all bickering and winging between both Countries Australia and India they are as bad as one another whats this teaching our young and up and coming sportsman, that its okay to slander each other because you are having bad day on the pitch Come on you guys you are Adults.so act like one. This puts the Game of Cricket into a catergory or aragant and ruthless sportsmanship, this reinforces the meaning of "Sore looser" and bad sportsmanship I Know The MEDIA have field day on all this and it seems to be one sided. The "Courier Mail" .And yes the Aussie Cricket team are "Chokers", and I say well done to the India. for well deserved win after coping a battering from Aussie's (Media,Cricket Team and the Public and Marto) sorry bloke but you needed a mention hearing your comments over the past weeks, just made me want to add my comments). Its about time the Aussie cricket team was knocked down a peg or two never seen such contraversy over a game of Cricket although I am not a Big fan of Cricket. It has set in my mind, what lengths Sportsman and sporting bodies go too,Just to prove there status and they can say and do as they please because of there ranking. I think lessons are to be learnt here that we are not all superior in what we do cause there is always someone out there looking to knock us off the the top spot and we should accept that .and show what sportsman ship is really all about.......
