Barry Hall KOs Brent Staker
Posted by Triple M Monday 14 April, 2008 01:15 PM
In one of the biggest brain explosions in football history, Sydney Swans star Barry Hall KOs West Coast's Brent Staker in front of a capacity crowd!
What do you think? Should the AFL throw the book at him or does this type of stuff make footy more exciting?

Throw the book at him. It's a blatant king hit and should not be tolerated.

It's a contact sport! That Eagles player wouldn't leave him alone. It clearly wasn't planned... over the top.. but not planned.
1 week ban tops! Lets see him in the Ring against Mason.. CAN YOU HEAR ME BIG WILLY?

Well I would get a lil' defensive too if some dude had his hands all over me! BANG! Didn't know where that came from lol. Sure it was a bit rough, but that will teach him!

There is no place in our sport for big bruts like big bad Barry... Yes it's a contact sport but this is blatant thuggery!!

8 weeks. Just can't do that sort of crap anymore.
So what if Staker was holding him, that is what backmen are trained to do - upset the forwards, but you don't expect that response, sure some pushing but not a king hit.

It's about time they brought a bit of BIFF back into the game. Reg Reagan woulda been proud of him! Ha ha ha.

Well if you watch the video closely you will see staker had hall by the throat moments before hall dropped him. For the information of the ignorant that keep calling this a king hit, A king hit is when you sneako punch someone from behind, this was a full frontal round house, not a king hit.
BRING BACK THE BIFFO

They should throw the book at him, but this stuff does make afl more exciting, much more exciting its what the game is all about testosterone and sweat but that does not mean you shouldn't pay the price

The eagle player clearly provoked Barry and as far as i can tell. The eagle back cleary ran into Barrys outstretched arm as Barry was clearly having his shirt pulled.

As much as I love the physical side of sport this is a bit over the top. Good clean hits in the run of play ... bring it on. Dropping a player because he is being an annoying twit is outside the rules and spirit of the game.

swap barry for david neitz at least he does not let people walk over him

A forward should and does expect a bit of niggle, push and shove. That is footy. But Staker didnt go over the top, and he obviously was getting under Hall's skin, as he was put there to do.
Hall's punch was nothing less than a king hit. Staker would not have known or expected it.
Hall should get 6 weeks, and to be served after his hand is good to go.
There would be no justice in the suspension taking place at the same time as his injury.
I like a bit of 'biff' in the game, but not a mongeral act. What he did is just as bad as taking someone out from behind.
