Chris Cornell's new pop sound
Posted by MMMusic Friday 25 July, 2008 11:59 AM

Former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell - the man with the most manicured goatee in rock history - is prepping a brand new solo album, but it's not what you think.
After his supergroup Audioslave imploded earlier this year, Cornell's back on the solo path with a third solo album due out later this year.
The electro-ballad 'Long Gone' is the first taste of his new material and chances are if you loved the primal power of Soundgarden, you'll probably hate this.
Listen to 'Long Gone' on this US radio site (down the bottom)
The song's been produced by Timbaland who's best known for making records with Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Nelly Furtado.
Have a listen and tell us what you think.

Seems he's left his testicles at home for this one. Awful!

Sounds like he's trying to be Justin Timberlake! It's a bit late for that, Chris...

Wow, this is like coming home to find your beloved childhood dog has committed suicide with a left behind note that reads "Remember the good old days, woof woof?" I love Cornell: I love Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden and Audioslave. But even in my weakest moment I couldn't understand this. I am all for experimentation but this will surely see him go to hell. People: Go back and listen to Badmotorfinger to remind yourself of how great Cornell can be

I agree... talk about riding a fad. Sounds like he's trying to relive his youth!

Wow, some really nasty comments here. I've followed Chris Cornell's career since I was a kid in school back in 1990! So if anyone SHOULD hate this new music, I should. But I don't. In fact I actually really like it. Yes, it's VERY different to what he's done before, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily bad. I think the songs are well written and very catchy. I can't wait to hear the entire album. Credit to him for having the guts to try something different instead of being a lame duck and doing the same old crap for 20 years. Offspring anyone?!?!
