NRL Radical Rule Changes - What Do You Think?
Posted by Triple M Monday 25 August, 2008 08:31 AM
In response to criticism that the game is becoming predictable, the NRL wanna trial a number of rule changes. So we want to know what changes you would like to see to the game we all love?
Radical trial changes that have been given the go-ahead include a new law where the defending team gets a 20-metre tap if he diffuses any kick in the in-goal.
What do you think? Limit the interchange? Less points for a try off a kick?

Limit the interchange.

One of the aspects of the NRL that I dislike at the moment is the speed of the game.
So I would like to see the 5metres brought back. It will force the halfbacks to become more creative and will bring back the lost art of five-eighth

Here's a radical rule - DITCH THE RULES! Bring back the biffo from the 70's & 80's, where the players played and you barely heard a whistle blow from the ref.
I watched footage of a game from the 80's and couldn't believe how the game flowed with little to no interference from the ref. Talk about skill!!

Video ref only to be used for in-goal decisions. Take this from the game or only 2 interchange per half because of all the stoppages from the video ref.

Make a try worth more points for more passes, as they do in mini league.
Do away with the kick at goal as it eats up too much of the playing time.

Bring back the scrum. It's a waste of time as it is right now. Make a hooker do something in the scrum.

Sitting around on a friday night
Watching the footy, not a pussy in site
Sharks are up, tigers are down
Benny tells me how its go'in round
Sheensy's spewing, having a spit
And Ricky's blewin, ready to fit
It's halftime and it's hard to split
I just hope the sharkies wake up a bit
The second half starts, without a blue
I can see sharkies comin' on through
The tigers score, and I need an ablution
I don't know what is the solution
I've had too many to keep on writing
But the sharks make the tigers look like whiting
Carney's gone in, the game's all over
And I will wake up feeling like rover
Two Brett's out there who gave it their best
But for one of them it's time for a rest
The tigers year is now all over
The rest of their year will not be sober

Feed the bloody ball in the middle of the scrum.

Rabs comp winner Peter Jolly, did excellent on TripleM, sounded fresh & controlled Gus.

Get rid of standing one foot in and one foot out to catch the ball from a kick off and make it out on the full.
Some restarts are blatantly going to land in the field of play but teams are penalised because they get a ball close enough to the sideline without it landing out of play on the full.

Have a scrum and rules applied properly e.g. feeding into the middle so it's a contest and less predictable. How radical?
Following the rules.
Lose the video ref. I can't stand the stoppages even when it's obvious. The ref is scared to make a decision due to criticism. Leave the ref "made a bad decision" out of it - players make more mistakes. The game is played by humans so it can be refereed by humans.
Have a ref in the defence for keeping the 10. Head ref in the attacking line. Other sports use 2 refs. League is too stuck up to learn from other sports.
As for commentators - listen to AFL. They call it as it is and don't yell at you like Ray Warren. Sterlo is heaps better with Andrew Voss.
Go Swans!
