Should Bono can his charity work?
Posted by MMMusic Wednesday 6 August, 2008 10:17 AM

In the strangest news of the week, a petition demanding U2 frontman Bono retire from charity work has been launched on the internet.
The Point petition argues that "Bono's charity efforts are self-righteous, ineffective & counter-productive."
"The grassroots leaders of the global fight against AIDS didn't ask for Bono to be their frontman. Its time for Bono to step down."
It cites the Bono-led RED charity campaign, saying it's "managed to spend $40 million more on marketing that it has raised from RED product sales."
So far the site has raised over a thousand dollars in pledges, which will go to charity - if Bono follows through. We don't like their chances.
The singer is currently busy working on U2's twelth studio album, rumoured to be out in October.
What do you think? Should rockstars stand up for charities or just stick to music?

I think it's noble what Bono is doing. The more people who know about these issues the better...
It's sad that it's so uncool to care about the bigger picture

U2 annoy the hell outta me, but yep, very sad to see how often Bono cops it reputation wise for trying to help people.
And the guy is succeeding!
He single handedly convinced the world bank to cancel the debt to numerous third world countries!
That's BILLIONS of dollars that these countries can now spend rebuilding and developing instead of paying it back.
And what have his detractors done for millions of starving and impoverished people lately?
Squat.
If I was Bono, I certainly wouldn't stop a damn thing just 'cause some people think it's not cool to use your influence to help people.
And I'm sure he won't.

I cant believe people are actually asking someone no matter who it is to stop doing good!!!!!!!! What the F has the world come to?
I suppose if this guy was shitting in a crowd we would be voting to see if we could get him to shit more?
The world and the media has defiantley gone mad! I'm glad that Bono doesn't take any notice of the media and the dick heads who run it!
Good onya Bono! Keep up the good work and I'll be supporting you all the way!
