Joan Jett is the grittiest hardest working woman in rock n roll!

What happened to Suzy Quatro??? She's one of the best rock chicks around!

On the Aussie side hard to go pass Suze DeMarchi.

What about Chrisy Amphlet of the Divynals, forget she is Aussie for a sec, their songs are hard yet played continously, and once when performing she relieved herself onto the crowd, "not only were they not upset but they were happy about it". For me its just the songs "pleasure and pain" wow.

How could Pat Benatar NOT be there - she had some of the best songs of the 80's - Love is a Battlefield, All Fired Up, Hit Me with your Best Shot - need we say more?

Hayley Williams from Paramore.

What a lame list, no Suzi Quatro, no Pat Benatar, and no Anne and Nancy Wilson, your top 5 would no have had as many hits together as either of these alone.

Not bad, but what about....
Suzie Quattro, Patti Smith, Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart, Chrissie Amphlett from the Divynals, Patti Smyth from Scandal, Pat Benatar, Alanis Morrisette, Tina Turner, Carole King, Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac, and if you want to go back to the early days of rock Dusty Springfield.

Debra Harry! had more great songs than all others in the list put together.

Out of the five, I'd say Joan Jett. I'd also include Grace Slick, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Janet Gardner of Vixen and Alexa Goddard (Trans Siberian Orchestra)

I'm still discovering new Bon Scott material. Love Rock 'n' Roll Train. Bring on more.
I wonder if this will be the last AC/DC tour?

Yes, what about Debra Harry? Also what about Annie Lennox? Surely she rates highly on the list? Thank God you did not have Madge!

For me it's got to be Pat Benatar.I still turn the stereo up when I hear All fired up.Brilliant.

Love your work, Myf but you score 1 out of 5 on this one. Janis - yes. The others do not even hold a candle. Sorry

Hmm drag queen number one? What about Wendy Matthews? Just kidding. Early rockers Tina Turner, Aretha, Etta James, and 80's Wendy James TransVision Vamp!! But you gotta admit the chicks from B52's are the best... Sheryl Crowe etcetc

PINK she rocks

It's hard to narrow it down, although I would put Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth in there somewhere. Maybe Tracy Bonham, she was pretty good. I don't know, it's really hard to say. Like I really like the voice of the chick from Paramore, although I don't think she's one of the best rock chicks of all time - I reckon she's good although in terms of influence and stuff then probably not.
And whoever said Pink has no conscience.

Who'll ever forget Janis Ian, Karla Bonoff, Crystal Gayle, and 1974 was the monster #1 hit of Sister Janet Mead.
More sales there than JoanJett of The Runaways and all the others.

Since we're apparently keeping score, I'd probably mark you 2/5 on this one Myf.
How Janis wasn't numero uno is quite bewildering...
1. Janis Joplin
2. Grace Slick
3. Shirley Manson
4 (...grudgingly...) Courtney Love
5. Dolores O'Riordan (...parochial choice, but an epic voice)

Two words: Patti Smith. You cannot have a discussion of rocking women without Patti Smith

I'm with you Amy.
I saw Patti Smith live at the Sydney Opera House last night and she was brilliant - classic, powerful and full of energy.
Shout out also goes to the Drones as support act...

You've lost the plot Myf. ANY Top 5 would have to include Pat Benatar, Debra Harry and probably Stevie Nicks in it.

Brody Dalle from The Distillers? Doesn't get any better than her!

What where are the Wilson Sisters - Nancy and Ann?!?!?
They should so be up there, they paved the way for women in rock n roll.
They taught girls you don't have to get naked on stage to be a good female rocker...
Long Live Heart!

Chrissy from Divinyls for me... Wot a sortie!
However. I have to say that the very stylish D. Harry looks very steamy in the two piece suit she wears on stage now...
Always admired her, one big piece of class!
